Soooooooo when google thinks “grilled hummus burger” it imagines hummus on top of a grilled burger. While that is clearly a good idea I kind of went a different direction with it. Here we make hummus then thicken it to make patties then we grill it!
1 can chickpeas (or buy premade hummus), 2 limes, 2 TB tahini, water, salt, 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (I bought vegan breadcrumbs at whole foods), 2-4 burger buns, garnish (tomato, avocado, pickles, etc), 1 huge sweet potato, spray oil
- To make hummus put 1 can of chickpeas, juice from 2 limes, & 2 TB tahini in a food processor. Add water slowly and just enough to make your chickpeas smooth. Add salt.
- Put the hummus in a bowl and hand mix in 1/2 cup breadcrumbs. Add spices if you’re inspired. The goal is to make a solid, thick burger. The more water you use the more breadcrumbs will be needed to thicken it. 1/2 cup is a good start but add more if its mushy. Now divide the mix into 3 or 4 patties.
- Spray oil on the Foreman grill (don’t spray oil if cooking over a flame) and cook for about 10 minutes on high. Put burgers on buns & garnish.
- Slice sweet potatoes and place on oil sprayed Foreman grill. Spray more oil on top and sprinkle with salt. Grill on high for 10 minutes. ENJOY
